Hi,

Just a quick one where do you buy the above? Been into a few country supply shops as well as a couple of Garden centres but don't seem to be able to lay my hands on any?

Thanks

You can buy it on-line but I think the delivery charges are quite high. I bought a bale from Hay and Brecon Farmers when I was last in Hay-on-Wye (I'm about an hour's drive from there) but I've not seen any locally.

I use Aubiose, and it is very good.
There are alternatives which I am about to try, my problem being a very badly mended broken arm from over 2 years ago, which makes handling a huge bale a difficulty, and it does not come in smaller sizes.
I have located another chopped hemp bedding in a huge amount, which I can decant into plastic sacks on my drive when it is delivered, its delivery charge was £6.95 which I thought reasonable.
I will post about it when I have used it.
I googled "chopped hemp bedding" and came up with this one through ebay. I sounded like a good alternative to Aubiose.

It is called Dengie freshbed, 100 litre bale, cost £12.99, post £6.99.
An alternative for me when the wrestle with the bale gets the thumbs down!!!!!!!

For Aubiose stockists see this list http://www.aubiose.co.uk/stockists.php
Last year mine cost £9.50 per huge bale from a local riding school supplier, with free delivery for over 7 bales. I'm still using them up!

Marigold beat me to it & posted the link that I was about to send to you. Just put in your county, & it'll give you a list. Some of the best stockists have phone numbers but not much in the way of websites, from my experience. Those around my way without flash websites seem to have lower prices too ;-)

As others have said, best to collect it yourself if you can, as it's bulky, so p&p charges are high.

Except that there's no-one within about 45 miles of where I am. the same is true for Herefordshire and Powys. Ah well, they say Shropshire is the forgotten county.

Seven places in Shropshire sell Hemcore if that's of use to you?

Thanks Bickerton.

I haven't started the bale of Aubiose yet and may not be able to keep the hens when I move. Ideally I'd like someone to buy this place who wants to keep hens then I could leave them, including Cocky.

Is there a rule against selling very expensive hens on this forum with a free house? E.g. 3 ex-batts, a coop & a 4 x 7m square run for sale for £250,000, with free 3 bedroom detached house in 1 acre of land? :D
It'd be handy to be able to find property for sale with a ready made run for your hens to move straight into; one less thing to worry about!

If you want one Icemaiden I have one for sale! Bit more than £250,000 though and with 36 acres. I'd love it if the buyer would take on my hens!
