Hi Everyone.

Glad to read on PPF that so many of you are moving across - I'd hate to lose touch.
I'm Welsummers on PPF but Margaid on here and FB.

Hello, on PP was Astrobelle, on here I am Belleisa , but look forward to catching up with others also.
Thank you for opening this so we can use it to meet up.

Our 'native members' might not realise that Practical Poultry Forum is closing down at the end of this month, which accounts for the number of new members joining us on here, or renewing membership.

Hello, I'm a refugee too...glad to see you all, thank you PK for opening the doors to us. :-)08

You PPF people coming here with your strange ways and customs, oh you'll behave at first till you get your feet under the table but before long you will be suggesting that the site would look better with a green background. What then?, that we ought to have a poll about how many birds we have on the welcome page. :) ;)

Shouldn't have to say that I'm only joking but experience says I should anyway just in case. A good number of new faces is just what the forum could do with so welcome to all.

Hi, I'm also a refugee from the other side. Name is the same but without 97 on the end.

Look forward to being part of this forum and thank PK for having us.

Another refugee here, was TILLYSMUM, now poachedegg. Nice to find a new home

Someone left the door open, another neighbour has pulled his chair upto the aga.

Hi,another moving over from PP, it was hard work finding the forum as Google insisted I should have gone to the other PK forum. Just noticed that I am a Hatchling, makes me feel young again. :D

That explains the Osprey interest. Will take a while to get used to your new name and Astrobelles. But good we can all keep in touch and put the world to rights

Yes! I'm in. Unshaven, smelly armpits and complete absence of social graces. I'll make them sorry :D .
But on a more serious note, I did not receive an email. Just tried to log in on the off chance.

Great to see you made it, HenGen. I'm looking forward to further bulletins from Fetlar. How are the lambs getting on? Did the guinea-pig-sized quads survive?

Yes, all you who're new to PK will get the chance to develop a whole new online personality. I did feel somehow different when posting as Fuchsia on PP, it was one reason I liked following both forums. I think it'll be fascinating, from a sociological point of view, to see how everybody shakes down together on here. But it was lovely to wake up today to see 6 new posts on the forum, when for so long it has been a hive of inactivity.

A BIG thanks is due to Tim, who must have been overwhelmed by the extra work involved in processing so many new members. He has a very busy life, involving lots of travel with his job, his own young family, his poultry and photographic interests, as well as all the work he puts in to develop the Poultrykeeper website and maintain all the software for that site and this one. If anyone felt like emailing him to say thanks, I think he would greatly appreciate it.

Marigold, I have done a thank you to Tim. Thanks to you, too, for making the suggestion that PP refugees join the PK forum. I'm glad I did and I'm sure others will be as well.

Even though I'm starting here with the same name as on PP, it does feel slightly different, possibly as I'm starting here with more experience. I was a member of the PP forum since 2010, by then having kept hens for a year, but I never felt that I had enough experience to respond to any posts, other than one I did through a personal message, as I was afraid of 'being shot down in flames'. I had a problem with one of my girls who is a persistent broody and my approach to her broodiness differed from the usual advice of sin-binning, and I'm pretty sure that message was to one of my fellow PP refugees!

I'm not sorry that PP is closing as we've been able to join the PK community and start out with a new personality. Oh, and by the way, I'm a Dyfi & Glaslyn Osprey follower too!

I think that people starting out to keep poultry for the first time are the lifeblood of poultry forums, giving experienced keepers a chance to help and explain, and providing tailor-made info to help newcomers through that surprising, and sometimes quite difficult and worrying first year. It's lovely to see new people gaining in confidence and able to contribute advice based on their own growing experiences, and I hope that on here we don't ever give the impression that people will be put down if they ask basic questions. Maybe the decline in forum membership generally is largely due to fewer people taking to chickens for the first time, and also those of us who have been round the loop several times having less poultry news to write about without getting repetitive?
Life on PP Forum had come to centre almost exclusively around the Dustbath, which had the same 'anything other than poultry' remit as this section, and the reason so many of us felt abandoned when that forum closed was probably the loss of mutual trust and support we had developed over a really wide range of issues. I hope that will transfer to here - but also that we can keep the forum focus on promoting discussion about poultry and helping each other with our birds.

Ooh. I feel all warm and cuddly. Mind you that might be due to the fact thati I've just drunk a large G and T whilst I cook my dinner.
Now a fact that I've never divulged in the public domain . In December 2015 I married my lover of 30 years.. Call me any name you wish but life is good.
Still reckon I'm a good chicken geneticist! :D
