Are laying chickens more sexually attractive?!

Hello, I have a pair of related polish bantams about 7 months old. The cockeral has just realised he's a boy and is getting very excited when he sees my other girls (3 bantam and 1 LF in a separate pen and run). When I let them out to free range together he makes a bee line for the big girls, particularly the bantam sussex, yet he shows no interest in his partner. Is it because she hasn't laid yet - I wondered if laying hens are more sexually attractive or is he just being awkward?!!

Oh yes, he will know which ones are laying, and will find them utterly irresistible! :D :D

if he didnt live with his current house mate he would also act the same way when he saw her. i have 2 cockerels kept separate from my layers who go mad when they are let out with them, but they dont act the same around their own 'wives'. i think its just the excitement of getting a little bit on the side! ;) ;)

Thanks for the info. I didn't realise cockerels were so fickle!
