has anyone ever used one of these and had success with it , i am still getting a few red mite no matter how much i treat with sprays etc etc and its annoying now .

Never used one on chooks, but use sulphur candles in greenhouses before.
I would say that to be properly effective, you'd need to block up all the ventilation holes/doors etc, or the smoke will not stay in the house long enough to be effective. If you don't, it'll all leak out too quickly to penetrate nooks and crannys and you'll just end up creating a chimney.

thats a point and i cant remember reading about that on the page will double check :)

If it has Sulphur it it the fumes attack ferrous metals as well. Thought about using one last year and I think it was discussed. If you don't well ventillate the greenhouse afterwards before going in the fumes take the back of your throat out -so not too keen on using anything like that on our little birdies.

They used to burn hoppers of tobacco leaves in the green houses of Kew Gardens at the turn of the century, apparently it killed every thing , nearly killed a few of the young apprentice lads to whom the job of stoking fell to, as well . We used to set off mole smokers at school behind the 'smokers wall' ,Didn't half confuse the teachers probably did their lungs no good neither . Off course none of this ramble has anything to do with chickens . I just looked at that plume of smoke and the memories came flooding back

bad trick to play but i like it   am not going to use one anyway was just wandering if they were any good think i found the little buggers hideaway ohh they got it all tonight and if there is any in the morning them i am going to scream .
found 8 more then usual and usually i only find about 3- 5 a day which is enough really but i cant see where they are hiding in the house as every seam nock or crannie is treated with powders and vaseline .

http://www.chickenvet.co.uk/shop/view/index.aspx/product/predator-mite-100ml-sprinkler-95 you can get these and theres something esle that was a lot more expensive but i cant find it , i have brought products from this site and i am still getting them , but my last 2 sheds were very heavily infested so i am not excepting to get rid of them in one go i just want something that really does work but within my price range.

The most powerful weapon in our anti-red mite arsenel is Elector, a biocide. It attacks the nervous system of the mites sending them gaga. So they can't hid at night and they can't find the chickens and they can't reproduce. Takes abour 5 days to be effective. You can only use it every other year as they evolve immunity, crafty little devils!
