just thought i would post another photo of my quail, hope its a girl.

does anyone else have a quail that just lie's in your hand and play dead, why does she/he do that, the minute i put her on her back she just closes her eyes and goes limp, she is a very friendly bird will sit for ages on your hand or shoulder. really hope this is a little girl.

Hi Marigold, yes she is a sweetie, she is a very friendly bird, wish they were all like her, i am going to be gutted if she turns out to be a boy.
How many quails do you keep?
The quails i got from Bulgaria i think are girls showing the correct coloured feathers. they are a lot wilder, not to keen on being handled.

how interesting that the Bulgarians are less tame, i suppose that must be genetic as you wil have handled them the same as the first lot. Or maybe they're boys....
i've got six girls, 5 from my first hatch and the only female out of the 8 in my second hatch. At one point I had 16, ie the 8 from my first hatch (including the 3 boys) and the 8 in the second lot. So all together there were 10 boys and only 6 girls. When nearly all the girls had been attacked, one by one, i decided enough was enough!

i know what you mean, they are horrid to the girls, that's why i don't really want to keep a male unless it's my lovely speckled one, i don't think i could bare to dispatch that one.
i will have to play the waiting game with that one i think.
The lady i got them from said it was a new strain (colouring) she was experimenting with and she thinks it's a girl.
