Hi,
Well if its not one thing its another, but thankfully having a little more experience, I seem to be helping this sick girl and she has perked up and seemingly turned a corner overnight. Yesterday she was so poorly, that I actually made what I thought was her last few hours comfortable. She was wrapped in her fluffy towel- (she loves it), and spent the afternoon in a box in my sons very warm bedroom, listening to his music? Anyway she either had enough of the racket or did genuinely start to fell better around tea-time.
Her comb is almost white, she is lethargic, very runny poohs, couldn't walk, eat drink etc...... crop extremely squishy. No smelly breath, or rattling or wheezing- generally unwell.
Last week we had one girl with an impacted crop. She was given Baytril by the vet, and I massaged her crop hourly, plus gave her olive oil- she thankfully recovered. I have some some Baytril left over, so I gave this girl, Nutmeg, 0.1ml by syringe, 10ml of water by syringe and she had a couple of beakfulls of warm ready brek. Within several hours she had perked up, enough to stand by her coop and water source drinking loads.
This morning she has managed to come out of the coop, have given her some more baytril, and ready brek which she gobbled up. If she doesn't get much better within the next few days, we will take her to the vet.
As my son said maybe she just has a headache- I know one thing I have got a permanent headache......
Anyway, I would never have believed that one day we would be spoon feeding a sick chicken ready brek!
