Aeronoutical chickens

That's cool. Mine can do the length of the lawn, esp. When I let them out in the morning.
 
Gliding too! When the CLBs were young I was lucky to just catch, out of the corner of my eye, one streak over the fence and over the gardens (spooked by the washing.) Excuse me, can we have our chicken back?
 
I've never seen anything like that before! One of our young TNN's managed about 20 metres and reached a height of two metres- the flying stopped when they came into lay, I guess because of the extra weight.

There was a world record for chicken flight but I can't remember how far? I suspect the chicken in the video could beat it.
 
Amazing! I've never seen chickens fly before! Mine just sort of use their wings as sails, to help them run along!
 
I've seen Exchequer Leghorns fly further than that but not at that height. When a newly arrived Welsummer hen escaped (see Oh boy! Did I get that all wrong!! Post by Margaid » Sun Dec 16, 2012 8:12 pm for the full story) she took off and flew about 40 yards - and they are not supposed to be flighty birds!

It says they're Friesian x Wyandotte. I had assumed a fair dose of Leghorn before I read the caption. Interesting how they crouch down and gather strength before takeoff. I love the part where one of them flies up on to the roof, touches down lightly, and then uses the impetus of her landing to bounce off over the paddock.
