Thought she was on the mend yesterday - appetite returned and looking brighter.
This morning it was obviously the end of the road. I think the underlying problem was her gizzard not working properly, similar effect as a blocked crop but without any apparent blockage - been going on for a few months on and off but it ended up as peritonitis/salpingitis.

Oh dear, Rick, I'm sorry to hear this. She was a very lucky and much-loved hen, very well looked after, as are all your birds.

So sorry, Rick to hear about Aeriel.
I have wall-to-wall redmite at the moment, but only in one roosting hut, all the others are totally clear, but at least it is getting under control. A nasty problem but not as sad as yours. I've just bought a spray that goes into their fluffed bum feathers when their backs are turned so quite a problem to pick the time to do it. They have baldish heads, but seem otherwise healthy and bright and are still laying.

Ack! Good luck with the mite Val. My solution of isolating the roosting perch at the ends (inc wings against the walls) has been working well this year though I know its not practical for all.

On to "red stop" expensive for a lot of hens, but it does seem to work, now on day 7 (of 10), and cannot see any, just ratty headed hens in the big hut
they are growing tufty plumage back now, so all seems well.
