Hi all ,

As some of you know I`m picking up my very first chickens tomorrow, And I was wondering as most of you may know the answer What size box should I take to go get them?

Im collecting 1X Amber, 1x Nera and 1x light sussex.

I have a box that is 12"Hx12"Wx29" L but is this big enough.

I would try to get another box, just stick 2 in your box.
Do you know anyone with a cat you could borrow their carry case?
Thats what I use when I need to transport my birds..... with 6 cats and 5 chickens (7 once i sort Dottie hen out and get my watermaels!!) amd 2 guinea pigs there's always someone a bit poorly or needing a quick check over at the vets... Best £15 I've ever paid from Argos! :-)17

Thanks Alieen for the advice, I have another box that is a 10"H ,X 14L, 14 W is that ok for one hen?

Ill put the other two hens in the other box.

Shame but I dont know anyone with a pet carrier, But sounds like you got a bargain!

Worth getting a cat box (or2). They are also easy to find in junk shops and car boot sales!Ros

Hi,

How excited must you be......

As everyone says they are so handy to have. I picked up mine 2nd hand from the car boot £3, and one from the vets £5- they had a selection of 2nd hand ones, you donated some money to a charity. Today one girlie layed it in, using it a nest box- I drape a towel over it for privacy.

I have even used a trug, covered with a bath mat or old towel/blanket. Anything will do really as long as they can breathe abnd can't escape.

Let us know how you get on.

We ended up raiding the spare room for boxes this evening, Now have 3 good sized boxes so there will be one for each box, Will let you no how the pick up goes and get some pics up tomorrow... Im so excited I cant wait.
