I am after some advice.

I am extending my run area for the chickens , I am looking for 50m of chicken wire but there are so many different sizes I mainly come across 2inch square and 1inch square in the chicken wire range Which size is best to go for and why?

I have found on ebay 50 mtr of 2 inch square for about £35 inc postage I think thats a good price???

I'm only a beginner, but I understant that foxes can chew through chickenwire! I was advised that 1/2 x 1/2" 16 or 19 gauge weldmesh was the safest to use.

Might be too late to add to this post but for what its worth I used chicken wire when I made my run mainly because as its quite large I couldn't afford weldmesh. We made it with very sturdy upright posts with cross bars to hold the wire taught & dug it down well below the ground level. And so far, so good. The only thing I would say though is that its has sagged slightly over the 2 & a half years, but its still fine.

Foxes can bite through chicken wire but if you use the small gauge (1") its more difficult for them to get their jaws through the hole to 'bite'. But I really think that only an electric fence will keep out a determined fox
