Administering Flubenvet

Hi,

Wonder if somebody can help as I cant get my head round how much I should be using..

The instructions say that 6g (1 scoop) should be mixed with 2KG of feed and should be carried out over a 7 day period. But does not state how much should be administered over the 7 days.

Now I have 3 Pekin Bantams which probably only eat up to 2KG per week, maybe a bit less, so should I just administer the 6g for the 7 days? and then repeat this process every 3-4 months or so?

Any help greatly appreciated.

It is about the percentage of flubenvet they consume relative to the food rather than the physical amount they eat so as long as you feed them medicated food for 7 consecutive days it doesn't matter whether they eat 1kg 1500g or 2kg over the week. Remember to make sure that they don't eat anything other than their flubenvet treated feed, no treats and no free ranging as this will dilute the proportion of flubenvet to feed. You should be ok worming them every 6 months unless they are in a very small space or are showing signs of infestation. Hope this helps.

I have 3 pekins, 2 eat mainly Garvo mix and the other eats mainly wet mash. I mix 1kg of each and just keep feeding it until it's all gone... Longer than 7 days, but not had any adverse effects so far. I worm spring and autumn only, in fact I'm worming now.
The main thing is to do it regularly and as dinosaur says, don't feed treats so they get a constant drip of the drug.

If you mix enough for the week, you can feed some of it as a warm damp mash if you like, they will love this. You could also mix in about 10% mixed corn with the weighed pellets to make it more attractive. It doesn't matter whether they are having pure pellets or pellets with some extras, just that they only eat treated food for a week. When you have weighed the pellets, take out a few and put them in a large container and add a little vegetable oil, mix well to lightly coat the pellets, then add the dose of Flubenvet powder and mix well. The oil will help the powder stick to the pellets. Then gradually add the rest of the weighed pellets, mixing as you go. Easy!

If you mix a wee bit too much its not the end of the world. I mix a batch up, put it out as needed, and if there's some left I put it aside for next time. If there's just a little left over let them have it with the rest of the food - it'll do them no harm.

I've opted out of the measuring and mixing thingy, and now give my girls Marriages layers' pellets with Flubenvet cleverly included.
Its a 7 day course, normal feeding, no treats, and of course they have to be "in" for 7 days.
Long chicken faces, but what the heck, it is for their good.
It comes from Marriages and with delivery has just cost me £19 for 20Kilos, it also comes in 10 Kilo bags.
I think it is great, no egg withdrawal, no hassle, and you know they are getting it, because they are not eating anything else for 7 days.
I know it works perfectly as this is the third time I've used it, hopefully with great success again.

Excellent if you have enough birds, but my four will only eat a maximum of 5 kilos in a week, so the remainder even of a 5-kilo bag would be probably be out of date and stale by the time they needed it again. I agree the measuring and mixing would be a chore for a larger amount but it's not a problem for just a few birds.
