As chucks finally devour all the remaining grass in the run what are the opinions of adding the occasional strip of turf to the run ?

My run is a permanent fixture so moving it is not an option just yet.

Hi Baz, you could put a lump of turf in but it probably would not last very long. Any weeds you have pulled up, old brassica leaves, bits of lettuce can all be strewn on the floor for them to scratch around in. Mine love cucumber and tomatoes, blackberries, raspberries. If you can get hold of some woodchip from a tree surgeon and put a 4-6" layer down they will scratch away to their hearts content especially if you throw a handful of corn onto it in the afternoon. The woodchip is good at clumping the poo together and makes it easier to pick up.If they are not free ranging leave an area for them to make a dust bath or make up a wood frame 6"-8" deep and fill it with sieved garden soil and sand plus some wood ash if you have any. I also sprinkle mine with red mite powder and let them dust it in themselves.
