Me and Mrs D got stuck in London last week after a freight train broke down and blocked our line for hours, rather than hang about the station and then get caught up in the chaos when services first resumed we decided to go and see something. Anyway we ended up opting for 42nd Street as we liked the film, got some cut price tickets and despite not being great fans of west end musicals we really really enjoyed it. The big set pieces are spectacular and the main parts were all good turns, Sheena Easton wasn't appearing and so it was the understudy in her part who had a fantastic voice, real power and range, much better than Sheena Would imagine. Just thought I'd say in case anybody finds themselves in the capital and is looking for something to go and see.

Good to know. We will have time to kill next week, on way to visit daughter

Thanks for that Mr D. Was looking at a poster for it today funny enough. We have seen understudies a couple of times at shows and have come away having really enjoyed their performance and not regretted not seeing the "star" One memorable occasion was Madame Butterfly where the understudy was ill and the star was suddenly taking ill 5 mins before the performance started and the 3rd choice was rushed on, and gave a truly amazing performance. Always good to see someone get a chance at the lime light.
