2 male Peking ducks 15 weeks old FIGHTING, they have only jut started this, when I come home they run up to me an start peckin my boots, then one of them will start pinching the other ones neck really hard an try push him down it looks Nast an painful, but the other one does it to him it's like turn to piece, I do t like it as they've never been like this before, also there starting to really bite an pinch me hard like there tryin to hurt me? Any ideas???

Two males will fight, they need to be separated if possible, each with a female duck for company. They have reached sexual maturity, and see you as something to fight over, when you aren't around they will proberbly be ok together, but you have to go in and feed them etc. I have two stag Turkeys what do this when ever i'm in the pen, they fight, but left alone they are ok, but fortunately, they are for xmas, so no chance of replacing one with a female.
So if i were you, i'd get them some female company and separate them ASAP.

Paddy there was some good advice in there for you, and for others that may find themselves in a similar situation to yourself with excess drakes.

Hi Paddy.

I understand how you find some of these posts offensive, however it's a fact that for every hen born, there is a cockerel and for every duck, a drake and a fact that some people on this forum may chose to rear table birds or dispatch excess birds.

We have always encouraged people to do this in the correct way, just like we encourage people to visit their vet if they don't have the experience to do this. I also spent some time speaking with the Humane Slaughter Association a couple of years ago to make sure we were offering the right advice too and have a blog post with my findings.

This said, let's not harass people in any way over this kind of thing. I don't think it sets a good example for the forum. I understand you have strong views on this subject and you are welcome to start a seperate topic to debate this in the General Chatter forum.

I hope you can go along with this :)

Paddy, you have had quite a journey with your ducks!!! Did they all turn out to be drakes as I remember you had three in total?

It is currently pairing season, so there will be some sexual displays and aggression. I also seem to remember that you raised these ducks by had so they may also be directing some of their sexual behaviour towards you.

I wouldn't worry too much as there is always some scuffling between males, usually the most dominant pulling the chest feathers from the other. I would be more concerned about the female, if either or both of them are over mating her.

I assume someone here advised culling one of the males? Another option you could think about if there are issues with the female getting over mated is to re-home the female and keep a bachelor flock. They may get on better that way.

Keep us posted on the behaviour and I will try and help along the way. Now we no that euthanasia isn't an option for you, as is the case with many owners, we can advise other options for you.

Hi , yes I have raised 3 beautiful pekins, I have not raised them for the eggs or to eat as I'm vegi, I live animals so much an they are my pets and I love them very much, there 15 weeks old, 2 mails an 1 female, my ducks all get on great, the female does not get raped infact very much respected as she agrees to mating and they don't excessively do it, and only one of males is paired with her, they don't both do it to her, the two boys don't fight when am not around them and they don't really fight when am there just abut of a pull on his feathers an that's it but there both as bad as each other it's not one gettin bullied at all, only thing that was concerning me was the kast 2 weeks or so there has been a change in behaviour they run up to me and basically pek me really hard and pinch and it does actually hurt, euthanasia why would you even mention that for what reason would I ever need to consider that???????? That is so wrong,

Starting to give me blood blisters there biting that hard, the mire I shoved an push then off the more they attach, there really hurting

Am becoming peed off with it, I didn't raise them an give them a home and nice laugh to be treated Like that, this all Only stated a month ago if that
