12wk old chucks .cockerel or hen?

Hello. We haven't had chickens for along time but recently my mum brought me some 8wk old marans from auction.They are now 12wks old and I'm still not sure what sex they are!! I think the white one is a boy and the cuckcoo possibly a girl? or boy. I know i'll find out sooner or later when or if they start crowing but the suspence is killing me so thought I'd ask the experts please,it would be very much appreciated

Hi Tigra and welcome to the forum. I've never heard of a white Marans, but it looks like it could be a pullet. The cuckoo is definitely male, partly by the growth of the wattles and comb, but more importantly the colour of the neck feathering. We had a cuckoo Marans and she was the same colour all over.

You might be able to see spurs growing but he should start crowing any day now- it varies between breeds so some 'show' much earlier than others. Leghorns at 4 weeks, Wyandottes at 8-10 weeks and Orpingtons at 16-26 weeks.

I didnt know white marans existed either, I had to google it! lol . I think the cuckoo maran is a golden cuckoo.

I'm lucky I can still keep them even if they are boys ,just not at home so I better start looking for a shed and run
