Hi can anyone give me some advice on rehoming ducks? With great sadness due to change of circumstances I am having to rehome my 4 ducks. They have been used to a free range but safe life style and I am so scared I will get it wrong for them. I have been looking on the Preloved site but one...

    Artificial Grass?

I does anyone have any views on using artificial grass in duck pens? After this years rain I am considering the pros of using artificial grass in my permanent duck runs. messy runners

Hi, I have 4 ducks; two are runners. The runners have their own house but it is wood tongue and groove. They poo so much and dance in their food and water bowl at night. Although they have wood shavings and a good layer of straw replaced every day; the house is suffering. Is there anyway to...

    Want happy duck keeping.

I have had so many problems since I started keeping ducks. I have had my dog chomping on my week old Esme; she survived. I accidently hurt my drake Jerrys leg; it is totally healed. I then had a few marvellous months with no catastrophes. Took my baby runners on holiday with me and we all had a...

    Introducing the babies.

Hi does anyone have any suggestions? Yesterday I put my babies in with my other two ducks. The older ones are a Cayuga cross drake and a Mallard duck aged around 3 and 4 years old. I have put in my two baby runners who are 8 weeks old and fully feathered. Both females I may add as they are both...

    Now another terrible accident

I am so upset. I was gardening today and Jerry my drake was enjoying the worms that I had dug up. Digging out a large piece of turf I tossed it to one side not realising Jerry was there. It hit his leg and he started limping. Having experienced being without a knowledgeable vet on ducks; I...

    Indian runners anywhere?

Hi after 3 unsuccessful attempts to hatch some runner ducks, I am now hoping someone has some for sale near Manchester. Really want females as have a very macho drake. Would love ducklings of any age as long as they have been vent sexed if that's possible. Loving home with lots of foraging room.

do ducks go into lock down as in artificial incubation?

I ask this as Karen has been sitting but coming off her eggs twice a day. The passed few days it has only been once a day. Today no sign of Karen. Apart from her making noises if you come close to her that is. Do ducks naturally sit continually on their eggs if they are about to hatch? They...

    One last go.

Finally I have admitted defeat with the failed runner eggs in the incubator. They are out and waiting for my husband to do autopsies on them. (I am too squeamish) I now have 7 more runner eggs and want to have one last go at hatching them. I spent all evening trying to research more about...

Hi can anyone advise? I have been artificially trying to incubate runner ducklings. I am now on day 29. How long should I hang on before I give up and accept I have failed? They have been on lock down since day 25 and nothing appears to have changed. I am not sure if I should be seeing the eggs...

First attempt at incubating. 12 potential fawn runners. 1 basic incubator. I haven't a clue what I am doing. Candling every day since day 7. Makes absolutely no sense to me at all. Maybe its my eyesight failing in my later years as I see nothing of all the descriptions, pictures of stages I...

    Cuckoo ducklings?

I wonder if anyone can help. My mallard has started laying; just the 2 for now. I am thinking of replacing her eggs with some Indian runner eggs when she has laid her clutch. Do you think this will work? She is supposed to be a good mum. If so; when do you replace her eggs for runners?

    Yet another question....sorry

Is it easy to clip ducks wings? They haven't had their wings clipped and their previous owner said that they will not fly off. Not too sure about that as they seem to do a lot of take offs around the garden now! They have the full run of massive garden while I am around but would like to...

    Fussy Ducks

Hi all; still getting to know my ducks. They do not seem to do fresh food at all? Tried them with lettuce, tomato, cucumber courgette and peas. They are really not interested. They will eat layers pellets until they get too soggy. They like a bit of corn mix. They like oats in water and love...
