    Cream Legbar Egg Colour

Would any of you lovely people have any idea why my Cream Legbars, laying beautiful blue eggs up to now, have started laying pale cream eggs recently? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Feather pecking

I wonder if anyone out there could please give me some advice? The hens have started feather pecking and it's getting desperate - a couple of them look practically oven ready. I have tried the Nettex anti feather pecking spray (goodness, it stinks too!), I have tried separating the likely...

    New hens arrived today

After a very long wait I picked up my new hens today. A long wait because having moved back to the UK in 2013 from South Africa I wasn't able to have any chickens (mainly because we were in a rented house when we moved back). In the meantime I've had to settle for reading back issues of...

    Some more photos

So, I took the plunge and put some river sand in the run, here are the pictures. So far the hens love it, enjoying using it to dust bathe and it is very easy to clean. Using sand in the run

I just read an interesting article on using sand on the floor of the chicken run - sharp or river sand rather than play sand you'd use for children's play areas. Some photos of my girls...

I think I have finally worked out how to post pictures... Here are a couple of snaps of my four hens - Linda, Dawn, Janine and Sandra - all named for friends of my wife from her time living in Jersey! The hens are enjoying their regular afternoon scratch around the back yard while their run is...

    Perching

I'd like to ask for some advice please. Of my four hens, two never seem to want to perch at night and are content to huddle up in the corner of the hen house or more often than not perched on the edge of the nest box which is set on the floor of the hen house. There are two perches available for...

    Sanibonani...

That's 'Hello' in isiZulu. I just wanted to say how helpful I've found this forum. I've been bitten by the chicken keeping bug for a few months now and took delivery of my four hens back in September last year. There's a real lack of resources for backyard chicken keepers in South Africa...
