Hi, one of my hens has gone all quiet this afternoon. The others are running around the garden when I have fed them but she is standing under a bush doing nothing. I went upto her and she moved away. She is top hen so seems strange her behaviour. Any ideas/help?

    Swedish blue/Shetland info wanted

hello, I am considering my first ducks next year and wondered if anyone can tell me more about the swedish blue and the shetland breeds. I have looked them up on the internet but knowledge on these forum pages is probably more valuable than what I have found. Anything from temperament and noise...

    bolshie cockerel

hello! Our two new hens and cockerel have been introduced with the three older hens. Everything is okay, except the cockerel seems to be picking on HIS sisters, not the new ones. Is he just being a cocky teenager (he is only 16 weeks old) with his girls, but knows that the older trio are the top...

    Scotland

Hello all, I think this forum is fantastic! I guess there is nothing the moderators can do, BUT, I wish that there was more input from Scottish breeders/backyard keepers/local knowledge as regards chooks, dooks and everything else. Unfortunately searching the "for sale" areas or breeders or...

Hello, have a few banty chickens but have always loved ducks. Used to have a lot of khaki campbells when i was a kid. Now I would like to expand - have a small garden - ducks could roam free (area about 10x10 metres) and would like a couple(?) of ducks. I do not have pond but could improvise...

    Shed as home

Hello folks. Haven't moved yet but finding accommodation difficult for backyard hens (only two left) and for us too! What do people think about keeping them in a garden shed (with window)? I'd rather keep them than give them away but if I have to keep them happy I would do so. But, if a shed is...

Hello, after inadvertently ruffling some feathers (sorry!) with last topic, am now in the sorry state of having to move soon and will probably have to give up some of my as un-yet hatched chicks depending on space and allowance to keep chickens- these MAY be: Vorwerk, Plymouth Rock, Welsummer...

    Bit of a rant..!

Hello everyone! Have some new eggs. I have had a bit of bad luck this year already - maybe too early and not fertilised or maybe all the cold weather and travel involved via postie was to blame (all getting a bit expensive!). Therefore no chicks yet at all! Too late to query this, but have some...
