Help! chicken and turkey with rattly breathing!

My chickens and turkeys are kept away from each other but one of each has got rattly breathing. Never had this in the 14 years I have kept chickens - vet says it's probably mycoplasma and has given me Baytril 10% for them and to put in the water for the others. Good book on Brahmas?

Have found books on Silkies and Faverolles for my children to give me as Christmas presents - does anyone know of a good book about Brahamas? Doesn't need to go too much into the genetics etc but as each breed has it's own little idiosynchrasies ( big word! :o ) I like to learn as much as...

    Creosoting chicken houses

I am going to creosote my new chicken house. Now this is a bit embarassing for me  as I have always gone on at my husband something alarmingly when he has used creosote near my animals, birds or plants as I had always believed it to be dangerous. But, I have read numerous times that it...

Silkies - Vaccinated against Mareks - or not?

Set my heart on Silkies but really apprehensive about their susceptibility to Mareks. Wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have other breeds - especially my original hens - some ofwhich - the Orpingtons - are ten years old. Touch wood, touch wood, touch wood(!! ) I have never had trouble with...

    Elongated egg

One of my chucks is laying elongated eggs - only 2 so far - but I wondered it if it was an indication of a problem with her.
