    Autumn Visitors

They live about 40mins away, and both have a car, and farm themselves. She is now on her 13th week in hospital still not walking. As OH, and two other people who have helped out pointed out at 81 she is not going to get fit enough to carry buckets of feed and walk over rough muddy ground, and...

    Autumn Visitors

Thanks, it's just one of those things you have to deal with. Just hard watching a parent deteriorate, and go from placid to violent. No sign of the neighbour coming home, it's getting to the point where her next of kin should start making decisions regarding her livestock, as how long does one...

    800th egg!

Well done on her 800th egg. My longevity record for a hen was Izzie who lived for 9 years, most of the hybrids seem to manage 4-6 years. I have always found Light Sussex to be very fond of cuddles with a laid back attitude, don't stand if you sit, and don't sit if you can lie down somewhere...

Rather impressive up in Shetland at the moment, so all our friends keep telling us, add on White's Thrush today. Plus Wales has had a bumper crop of avian visitors. sadly we have mum with dementia to care for, and a neighbour in hospital so OH is looking after livestock. So no birdwatching for...

It was very long, and you have to walk like Max Wall to get along it. Margaid will be pleased to know they use Welsh coal on her always.

We had a hotplate experience on Friday at the Bluebell Railway where we got to go in the cab of the Flying Scotsman, and walk through the narrow passage that runs along the inside of the coal tender. To see her up close and personal was a real treat, we have seen her in motion as well. Had a...

    Flypast

My friend assures me he hasn't flown his Strikemasters anywhere near Canterbury, his planes, he has two are mainly kept at Hawarden aka Chester Airfield. His journeys when based at N Weald don't take him that way, and he would be high up over towns and villages. We get them low because he has...

    Poultry shows now allowed again

    Flypast

Probably Aerolegends, they operate out of North Weald Essex, and Headcorn, Kent. You can fly in a Spitfire and also fly alongside in a Harvard an American training plane from that era and take pics. They do flights to various places, and I know they go over Canterbury. £2975 if you fancy a spin...

    What to do - lice?

I agree with Icemaiden & LadyA it is the best way to go, and put some in the dust bath, you can try the FlytesoFancy website they have lots of products for hens and may have the liquid, can't remember the name either.

What would a bank do if...

Perhaps a poo print in lieu of a signature, I am sure each one is unique to a hen.

What flowering plants and shrubs to plant in chicken run area

Mine eat anything that is planted, and scratch it up. They have a cherry laurel in there which they love as it is always dry and dusty underneath, and makes a useful sunshade on hot days

    Avian Flu

We did notice that the hundreds of Eider duck, and many waders that were about seem to be unaffected
