I've just been seeing bits of reports on the news. Between the strikes, the energy price hikes, and general cost of living, it all looks very 1970s/early 80s - I keep expecting to see Arthur Scargill being interviewed!

We acclimatise, I guess. My brother is visiting from Singapore at the moment, and although they're freezing, they're also revelling in the novelty, being used to the temperature rarely varying from around 32C. They're enjoying the novelty of seasons.

Seems a lot of places are at fridge temperature! Years ago, we visited Romania in February. It was minus 22C. Our hostess was using her garage floor as extra freezer space! Containers full of frozen food, just sitting there, staying frozen!

More like "over there" as I'm in Ireland! I remember learning the industrial/manufacturing towns of the UK as a child in school - Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield etc. - but just a vague idea that they were in the middle of the map, somewhere.
