Ah well, we’re easily pleased. I’ve not even been to Lerwick for months. The crowds, the hustle and bustle. And as for visiting my brother in London - you’ve gotta be joking! And even if there is a direct flight from Shetland to London City Airport, no thanks.

Yesterday I had a neighbour for mid-morning coffee and another one in the afternoon for Scrabble. After all that I needed a lie down with a wet towel on my forehead. Fortunately JasonX on Amazon Prime perked me up!

    Dog Dead

Found Skip dead a fortnight ago. She was the best dog I’ve ever owned. And also the last. That’s the thing. Our animals invariably pre decease us. If you can’t handle that then get an eternal jellyfish.

    Mastitis

She died. But lambs have grown into nice gimmers. And as a neighbour observed having asked how many lambs she‘d had (13 lambs in four pregnancies), “ aye, she did you well”.

Like most people I really worried. Electricity in Shetland is in any case about double that in the rest of the UK. Unfortunately pensions aren’t. I currently spend approximately one seventh of my income on electricity. If the projected increases happen then I’ll be pushed into extreme fuel poverty.

    Hotel

No sooner do you get rid of this seasons youngsters than you have to do a quick clean out for someone else’s hens to arrive this afternoon for a three week stay. I hope no one thinks they’re mine. Barnvelders! Pah!

Are these little "peepers" ethical? are they effective?

Are they effective? No idea. Are they ethical? Not in my book. We keep hens in unnatural conditions and then wonder why habits like feather pecking and cannibalism break out!

    UK lags behind again.

Thank God for that. Though I suppose to be open minded what is France and Germany‘s reasoning?

    Good Luck

Good luck all of you who are in the path of the hot air moving up from Southern Europe. Heed the government recommendations.

    Celebrate

First gay pride ever in Shetland yesterday. Come a long way since my days as a Trades Union steward fighting an uphill battle. Bought this coin from Royal Mint.

    Mastitis

Bound to happen sooner or later. Ewe with triplet lambs has mastitis. Given a big dose of antibiotics and hopefully she’ll stay in milk. Lambs are 45 days so should survive if she does dry up if given supplementary feed. Nevertheless it’s a worrying time.

Onl the second wedding here in 12 years. Not islanders but they liked the venue. But where did this decorating of post boxes come from?

    What is this shrub?

It’s about 6 feet tall and 8 feet across and very attractive to bees.

    Is anybody out there?

Port Mor on Isle of Muck, pop 27 I checked in too and had one of those tumbleweed moments. Lawrence MacEwan of the Isle of Muck died on Monday. A salutary reminder that the smaller islands of both Orkney and the Inner Hebrides have similar problems with depopulation as we do. Mystifies me as to...

    Pregnancy

Nine lambs and 24 chicks (4 Welsummers, 5 Mottled Orpington’s and 15 Barred Rocks). Very happy. One lamb gone to a bereaved ewe. One in a separate paddock with it mum because it’s mum is being naughty. One died.
