Hi everyone,

New here. Thanks for having me

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with different methods for hatching female chicks. There’s a theory that round eggs are more likely to be female, while pointed eggs are more likely to be male. I do believe there’s some truth to it, but it hasn’t worked as reliably for me. A friend recently shared another method that she says has worked for her, although I haven’t tried it myself yet. She suggests placing the hatching eggs in the refrigerator for a couple of days before incubating them. The idea is that the cold will kill the male embryos, leaving only the female eggs to hatch. From what I understand, this means fewer eggs will hatch, but those that do will all be female

I haven’t had the chance to test this out yet and probably won’t be hatching until the end of the year. In the meantime, I’m curious if anyone here would like to give it a try and share their results. I’d also like to turn this into a discussion thread about sexing eggs—if anyone has any thoughts or experience with this new method, I’d love to hear them

Thanks in advance!

I'd question the theory that rounder eggs are more likely to be female than pointy ones. If this was true, guillemots would be extinct because all of their chicks would be male!!!

Egg shape is partly down to the breed of hen that you keep. My Marans lay much rounder eggs than my Leghorn or my Pita Pinta Asturiana for example.
