    Hello

Its by far the best way, we used to do that. One of my neighbours grew asparagus so he was very popular! I used to give my eggs away, and sometimes they would come back in the shape of a cake! Bet you can't give the courgettes away though!

    Hello

Hello and welcome, I hope you enjoy being on the forum, it is a friendly place with plenty of experience. You were lucky to get utility LS, they must be pretty rare. I used to keep utility white sussex, but I'm not sure their egg laying abilities were much better than a regular strain...

    Reasons to be cheerful

Alongside our lovely photo thread I thought I'd start a thread of happy things we might have all been doing/seeing/hearing to cheer ourselves up. We live in a remote hamlet, so not much happens at the best of times, but things which have brought a smile to my face in the last 24 hours include...

    Hello I'm Shadrach.

Hi Shadrach, welcome to the forum. I am a Brit, living in central Portugal. We have escaped the heatwave, but I know your part of Spain is suffering from the wildfires, something we also have a lot of experience of, so stay safe. I am very interested in chicken behaviour as well, because I...

    Hello from France!

Welcome! Whereabouts in France are you, beautiful country, somewhere I lived for a while many moons ago. What sort of bird is that in your avatar - it looks like it could be a lovely big fat orpington, but it could be lots of other things as well, the image is too small for a good look!

    Hello from Lincolnshire

Hello Steve, welcome :D What a lovely summer you have to look forward to, with all those eggies. I think Bluebelles are one of the nicest looking girls, I am sure you'll have a ball with them.

    nature notes

I have been meaning to start this thread for a month now, inspired by the great geographic distances between us, I thought we might spot different wildlife. We don't get much with 4 legs around here (last week I saw a rabbit. This is noteworthy!) but there are a lot of birds and a great...

    Logging on

I seem to get kicked out of the forum once a week (seems to be on a Sunday) and I have to log in again to see new posts. Is this the same for everyone? Is it because I am on an iPad or don't post that much? Though I am busy reading!

    Hello from Bulgaria

Actually I might well use a plastic house in a barn :D It probably depends on how secure the barn is. I might feel better knowing they were very safely shut up because we have Egyptian mongeese as well as roaming dogs and the odd fox here. Our stone outbuilding is a bit porous to say the least...

    Hello from Bulgaria

Hi Sarah, welcome :D I am not sure how hot it gets in Bulgaria, but I had both plastic and wooden coops in the UK, but I wouldn't use plastic in Portugal where I am now. Our summer temps are routinely in 30s with a week or so in the 40s. Conversely we get mega wet winters and I am not sure...

    Hello from France

Welcome :D I am another person who lives between 2 countries, Portugal and the U.K. But I have lived in France as well, in the Tarn, and we have regular visits to Normandy to see family. I do envy you, prunes, wine and duck :D

    Croad Langshan

Its always nice to hear about a breed's traits at first hand, I didn't know they were long lived. I also think they are absolutely beautiful, I fell in love with some at the Fed a few years ago, trouble is, OH was not impressed :( Still, one day..... :D
