The may (i.e. hawthorn) blossom has been & gone down in Kent, but I guess that that too comes later on Fetlar?

Just a saying from down south, Icemaiden. No hawthorn here so far as I know. Too much salt laden wind.
Lambs coming this week. One ewe had twins but totally rejected one of her lambs. So it’s gone to a neighbour to be adopted by a ewe who’s lost her own lamb. Pity because she was a big strong ewe lamb whereas her brother is a bit weedy. But I’m philosophical about it because I’m not keeping any this year.

Wait! What??
All my life - in spite of being surrounded by hawthorn trees, I've thought that saying "....til May is out" meant you shouldn't start wearing lighter clothes until the beginning of June! May blossom makes much more sense! ?????

I found out when given a book of sayings and country lore and what they really mean. It was a fascinating book

You can have some of ours! Grass is growing far too fast down here in Hampshire. I mowed it all a week ago, and it’s now back up to ankle-high.

This year, "till June is out" is starting to feel more like it in Kent... It's 15°C in our house this week. I've been wearing my oodie with woolly jumper & lined trousers underneath plus my furry lined boots. I confess that I'm currently snuggled under the duvet with my electric blanket on. It's JUNE for crying out loud! It feels as though the next ice age is just around the corner... ?

Been high teens/low 20s here for a couple of weeks now. Not a drop of rain for about 3 weeks, and none showing in the forecast for at least a couple of weeks.
