There is a lot of controversy over what kind of perches one should use in a hen house. The absolute best product is CLS timber. It is cheap to buy and therefore cheap to replace if necessary. The standard size (75mm x 50mm) is perfect for large fowl. This is comfortable for the birds feet and also flat and wide so when the bird slumps down at night and rests its breast on the perch it is also comfortable. An additional benefit, as you can see, is that the edges are slightly rounded. Perfect for your birds!

We have always used CLS in all our coops, but the standard thickness from our supplier was 38mm. Bantams have 50mm wide, large fowl 60mm (which is a bit narrow and 75mm would be best) and very large fowl have 84mm. The corner radius is supposed to be 3-5mm but sometimes is less on pieces, so just needs a bit of sanding.

Over time (years) it can occasionally twist slightly, resulting in a wobbly perch that they won't use. The solution is to shave some material off one, or in extreme cases both end(s).

We have CLS timber as well. lasts wel, cleans ok and is cheap enough to replace if need be.
If you by a ready made coop, the perches are always ridiculously narrow
