We went for a walk early before it was light, Oh picks up a bag and rubber gloves I said " surely you're not going to pick up rubbish on Christmas day"
"why not as we go by a rubbish bin I can pop it in"
So off we trot and pick up Costa cups, Red bull cans and a few other bits, when OH starts delving into the hedge
"leave it if it's in the hedge leave it for the road sweepers"
Then she emerged triumphantly clutching two £10 pound notes, and a soggy McDonalds bag.
That's what I call a result

That's a good reward for an excellent job! A just result if ever I heard of one. :)08

Well done OH! My father used to say "Cast your bread upon the waters and it comes back as beef sandwiches" but £20 and a McDonalds bag seems to fit the bill!

Looking back at all our posts on here this year, it struck me how we’ve made our own history of the pandemic, and how we’ve each coped in our various situations. When there’s so much personal nastiness in other parts of the internet, our little corner down here is what I always go to first thing in the morning, for laughter, support and information. 2020 and 2021 seem to have blended together in my mind somehow, - so little has happened in my own life, the two of us and the dog just quietly living here with our heads down, not going to things, doing the garden, remembering to charge the unused car battery now and then. Meanwhile the teenagers in our family have been coping with life in lockdown at school and university, and their parents with changed circumstances at work and with their own health. And yet, here we are, and every day I click the button that takes me to the Dustbath, settle down, fluff my feathers, and know you’re all out there, those people I know so well but shall most probably never meet. So thank you all for another year of friendship, and every good wish for whatever is to come in 2022.

How lovely of you to write that, Marigold, I do agree with you. I get a lot of gentle pleasure out of this forum, although I no longer have birds. I am in the UK with an elderly parent for a brief spell, and life has dwindled down to the house and a daily walk around the village. I have been struck by how friendly people are, every person I pass says something, and even though we have been here for 50 years, I hadn't actually realised till now how nice everyone is. I suppose in times gone by I was either a child or a teenager with zero interest, or during my working years I didn't spend that much time on foot in the locality, I'd be with my parents and always doing something, going somewhere. So, my personal faith in human nature has been restored, away from the news which gives a very distorted picture of humanity, because it feels to me that only conflict generates news (and I don't mean wars).

And of course, you are all very naughty, so the entertainment value is high!

Lovely sentiments Marigold thank you. We have certainly kept going in our own way, with a great deal of humour on the forum, and marvelling at some peoples stupidity.
Heard good one today, two women talking. One said her Christmas was totally ruined as their car was written off in an accident before Christmas, so she couldn't get to Waitrose, and had to buy her shopping in Tesco, it was simply ghastly and she felt like cancelling Christmas

I was reminded of that episode of The Good Life when Margo's Harrod's hamper failed to arrive

Love the inn & the wise men, thanks! I've passed them on to a friend who's just spent Christmas with an arm broken in two places. Hopefully they'll bring a smile to her face...
