went to shut chickens away tonight and my brahma cockerel was dead i thought it might have just been the cold, i got a torch to find all 5 hens dead aswell. You can guess what it was, that wasnt just the 6. had also killed 3 ducks my trio of buff orpingtons. 3 light sussex pullets i am so annoyed, did even see it.

SHAME HE LEFT HIS FOOTPRINTS IN THE SNOW RIGHT BACK TO HIS DEN !!!! :)17 :)08

How did it get in RBB? Was this an attack in broad daylight?

You have my greatest sympathy. We we were devistated when we lost just two before Christmas. But no footprints so we couldn't tackle the problem at source, so to speak.

It is an illegal practice in the UK to use poison on any wildlife this includes foxes, therefore we cannot support any suggestions to this effect on this forum..thank you!

Not a problem Tyg! :D

Rats (not domestic rats) are classed as vermin, and have the potential to carry diseases as well as cause damage to properties.

The poisons you can buy are designed specifically for target species such as mice and rats, with clear instructions on how to place bait to prevent accidental poisoning of non-target species such as badgers, owls etc.. as well as domestic pets such as cats and dogs.

Aren't some traps also illegal? Can't remember whether it's gins or snares. But it is always better to use a walk in trap anyway. Best thing is to get hold of someone with a propper rifle. It is fairly easy to guard against foxes at night. Chucks should be securely locked up. Daytime foxes though, are another story.

Sorry about your problem Rarebreeder, I was woken up about 2-3am by what I thought was someone scraping ice off their w/screen, followed by what I thought was a cat fight, which ended in an almighty screaming, far louder than a cat could make. Looking out of the window, saw a small fox skulking out of our neighbours garden, empty mouthed. Checked the chooks, they were ok. No paw prints in the snow in our garden. I like to think the viciously thorned clippings I'd placed under our hedge, had done their job. Hmmmmm.. maybe
