Egg shape and size

It's me again, with another of Sindy's weird eggs. She lays every other day and is in good health, happy and eating well, red comb etc. I am assuming this is just down to old age? Must admit, I felt for her after weighing this egg at 93g. The egg had creases in it, red spots etc. (not actual blood). She's always laid big eggs and odd shapes, this is the worst I have seen.

The wrinkles in the shell make me wonder whether she's ever had IB?

I don't know, Icemaiden. She came from a battery farm. She's always laid large eggs, some with 2 yolks. Average size is 80-82g. Her eggs have always had a lot of white inside , not large yolks. Sometimes the shells are too thin and therefore break in the nest. I'm assuming it's old age, as she gets all her decent feed, greens and grit.

How old is she now Tweetypie? Those pics look normal for an old hybrid to me. She's doing well to be producing intact shells of any kind I think. You'll have to watch her carefully when she starts laying softies.

I'm not sure how old she is. If you recall I got her from a battery farm, BHWT, May 2018, so guessing she must be 4? I also got Barbie the same time and her eggs are always the same, smooth. I guess like people some fair better than others. So long as she looks ok then I will not worry. I just felt for her passing that monster egg. ?

Wow! They look like moons in your photos! I would guess that because she lays big eggs then the shell takes longer to form and movement while it is still thin causes it to fracture and then get more shell deposited on top. She must be about 3 - 3 1/2. She needs calcium, phosphorus and Vitamin D to make shells. Its all in layers pellets but I really think Battles Poultry Drink is good stuff (has a bit of extra phosphorus and other essential minerals.) Should be no shortage of calcium what with the layers and the oyster shell in the grit. Vitamin D - well we shouldn't give them the best source of that for a top up so plenty of sun bathing!

Thank you Rick and actually it gave me peace of mind to think that due to the huge size (another 92g one again today), that perhaps it does take 2 days to "make" it. The others lay daily and their eggs are lovely and smooth. Now the sun is shining, she will hopefully get her vitamin D ;-)
