Couple of chicks from a recent hatch...took me a while to realise a naughty cockerel had got into the breeding run...as these sweeties are not pure faverolles!
We had a similar problem with our October hatch after I grabbed all the little white Leghorn Bantam eggs we had and put them in the incubator to replace the hen that was killed when we arrived. One of the little white eggs hatched a rather large Leghorn bantam with a rose comb. Contacted the Leghorn club -the secretary who we bought the cockerel from and sent pictures. I initially thought he was some kind of genetic throwback. At that stage it was becoming apparent that perhaps he was far too big and fluffy to be a Leghorn at all. Then the penny dropped. By complete co-incidence one of the Gold laced Wyandottes must have laid a completely uncharacteristic small white egg just before we left. They were in with a Buff Orpington cockerel. So Chester is a Buff Orpington x Gold Laced Wyandotte. Shares characteristics of both. A rose comb and very fluffy feathers. Just like his dad he is now 14 weeks old and still a long way from realising he is a cockerel -his dad got to 26 weeks before suddenly standing upright and crowing.
