Bed Time

I sometimes forget how much later it gets dark up in Scotland this time of year. Even though after years away I still notice the difference in when it gets dark between Newcastle (where I'm from) and the South of England where I live now. On the bright side, at least you won't have to let them out till after nine come December.

Ours are usually fairly good at trotting off to the coop, but they decided to celebrate the longest day by staying out late to, thankfully it wasn't gone 10 45pm.
On a plus side Hen-Gen I assume you get to see the Northern Lights occasionally,

We can see the Northern Lights down here too. Birds were in bed slightly earlier tonight as it was drizzling

Mine all trot off to bed by 10pm! I think it's maybe because it's that bit darker with the roof on the run? It's corrugated clear plastic, but it's a few years old, so is quite grubby!

Our aged lot toddle off to bed early which was nice, and then we cracked and on Tues got 9 POL hybrids who all want to stay up late, and were a bit confused as to what a coop was and surely you sleep atop of it not in it

-and what are those funny-looking bars inside it? They get in the way when we want to cuddle up together on the floor!

Absolutely, the answer is to limbo under the bars and push them out of the way. Making sure you pick one that already has someone sitting on it, much more fun

Sitting? Don't you need to add an H?

Quite possibly, also one has decided it's great fun to wait until a human bends down to pick something up then jump on their back to roost for the night

Just read that article thanks.
I can just see people on hols with a hen by the bed. You could put a cockerel by people that want an early alarm call

Mine are obviously noticing the slight shortening of daylight already! They're all in bed about 9.30 now! I've only had them about six weeks, and it was 10.15 bedtime when I got them. At this rate, by Christmas, they won't be getting up at all! :D :D

Mine are the same. Nature's great. They're all having a rest at the moment, from egg laying. Can't complain, they've been non stop since boxing day.

I hate to say it, but has anyone noticed that already it's getting dark a bit earlier? I have a brother living in Singapore, which is just about on the Equator, close enough that they don't get changing seasons, and they visited home a few weeks ago. They love the changing seasons here, and they love that in Summer it's still not quite dark after 11 pm, and in Winter, it's pitch dark before 5. And they love the changing temperatures too. But anyway, when they were here, they took pictures at shortly after 11 one night, to show their friends that it wasn't quite dark yet! And last night I noticed it was quite dusk by 10! Not getting bright so early in the mornings now either, which I won't complain about! My bedroom window faces east, and even with blackout blinds and curtains, I still wake as soon as it gets light. So, 4.30 dawn I'm not a fan of! And I know that come December, I'll be like a slug, and it will be hard to dig myself out of bed!

Yes definitely getting darker earlier. Also we had C 600 Swift head off south over the garden just after 6pm and today large flocks moving through, autumn is a coming.
Had a juvenile and adult Kingfisher on a branch by the lake this morning

I've seen the birds do their gathering "practice" flights around here, and I thought I was imagining it! I even found myself talking to them the other day, telling them "Don't be daft! You just got here!"
