A few more questions

Thanks for all the hell that you guys have given me but I still have a few more questions

1. I have got some chick crumb but both types they sold did not have coccosidient or however you spell it. So what can I do to make sure they don't get sick.

2. Should I have seen movement or cracks in the eggs yet as they are due to hatch on Sunday and I have not seen either.

3. They are due to hatch Sunday so if I set the brooder up on Saturday morning is that enough time

That's all I can think of at the minute but I'm sure I will have some questions later.

Thanks for all your help from Tom

Hi Tom,
I hope it was your spell checker talking, on the first line of your post - we do try not to give people hell on here!
Chick crumb will be fine, the coccidiostat is just an extra line if defence against coccidiosis, which shouldn't occur so long as the brooder is kept clean and as dry as possible.
Eggs should pip in the next couple of days, you can only sit on your hands and hope and wait. Once started, it usually happens quite fast. They cheep to each other and this stimulates them to get out and join the party.
Yes, get the brooder warmed up on Saturday, make sure its all working OK.
Remove the turning ring, put in the soft base and raise the humidity tomorrow, when the turning should stop automatically. I hope you will see them pipping by the evening but don't panic if not, sometimes they can be a bit early or late.

Yes it was the spell check.
Other than keeping things clean is there anyway you can prevent it from occurring.

That's good I might turn the brooder on on Friday evening after I have stopped the turning and added the water just in case I have any early arrivals.

What is the usually hatch rate from eggs brought online.

Thanks for all the help from Tom

Hatch rate for eggs bought on line and posted to you will range from nearly all hatched, to none at all, there are so many variables. If the eggs aren't fertile of course they can't hatch, and if they are old, or get shaken up in the post, this will affect them.
If you do happen to have bad luck with this lot, probably someone on here will be able to recommend a more reliable sorce of supply. But let's hope all will be well, with at least a fair number of them. At least quail eggs aren't usually very expensive, unlike some chicken eggs. Keep us posted!

Yes that's true at least they are quite cheap. I have a few other questions that I hope you can answer and I'm sticking the brooder on on Friday so that I know everything is all good for Sunday,

1. Where should I put the min/max thermometer in the brooder to get a accurate overall temperature. Should I put it close or away from the heat lamp or in the middle of the box.

2. If none of these hatch where do you get your eggs from.

3. Is there anything else I can so other than cleaning the box regularly to reduce the chance if infections and illnesses.

Thanks for all the help and will keep you updated from Tom

When you are warming up the brooder before they go in, try the thermometer in different places so you get a range of readings. Once the chicks go in, you'll be able to see from their behaviour how hot or cold they are, they will huddle together near the lamp if cold and disperse far away if too hot. The pre-warming is just to check that the range is suitable, so they are warm enough (same as the inci temp. at first) but can escape if too hot. Remember it gets colder at night, when you won't be awake to check on them.
Let's not worry about your next eggs until you've hatched these. I'm sure you are doing everything possible within your power for a successful hatch. Good luck!

Thank you very much for your help and also if sounds like the turning mechanism on the incubator has got a lot louder is that suppose to happen or could there be something wrong. I was think it might get louder as it will have a heavier weight to push around as the chicks grow in the eggs but I could be wrong and it could be a fault. What do you think from Tom

So long as it's still turning don't worry about it. In any case there's nothing you can do, and it will soon stop turning anyway, won't it?
I don't know whether the growth of the chicks makes any difference to the weight, but since you could reliably hatch a very much greater weight of chicken or duck eggs in a Brinsea Advance, I don't think a few CPQ eggs would affect it.

Ok thank you very much it is suppose to stop turning at around 4:30 today. When it has stopped turning tonight I will check out the turning mechanism. Thanks for all the help from Tom
