Coronavirus

Please consider signing the petition to allow zoos to re-open. They are in financial difficulties, many of them carry out valuable research or conservation and have put really good measures for social distancing in place. It also appears that the animals are missing the visitors!

Thanks Marigold, I agree with you although some of the breeding programs are helping to keep species alive.

The BBC News website has just declared that zoos will be able to open from Monday 15th, which makes a lot more sense than allowing non-essential shops to open!

And car showrooms! Just when one if the best side effects of lockdown has been reduction in CO2 and improvement in air quality, getting people to buy a new car is apparently first up for national priority!
Mind you, ours is going to have to go on ‘flight’ to a very expensive holiday to nearest BMW garage, since whatever is wrong with it is the sort of computerised thing that BMW insist on fixing themselves. I can feel a saga coming on!

Gosh Margaid you ask to sign a zoo petition, next thing they are opening on Monday. Who knew you has such powers :) :) :)
OH sent a donation to Anglesey Sea Zoo about a month ago when they put out an appeal. She said " at least a lobster will be well fed and happy tonight"
"Not if it is a sharks dinner" I quipped

Gone are the days marigold when you could whack something in a car with a spanner and get moving, or the warning light came on, and you had a look when you got home. We had a faulty sensor which meant the car just stopped and refused to move. Nothing wrong with the mechanical side what so ever. Expensive trip to garage diagnostic test and a reset.

We are looking forward to the saga of your BMW

Morning all! I'm still around, just ....well. Things are all in a heap here. Mum's in hospital again, and has delirium again. phoning me in the middle of the night and early hours to let me know that she has a hospital appointment and I need to collect her, etc. etc. etc.!! They aren't sure what's wrong, but her infection markers are up, her skin has a "tanned" look that it shouldn't have, and her skin is blistering and peeling! (maybe a reaction to the antibiotics she's had, but they are thinking it could be a separate issue.)

Laters, gators! I'm outta here. No visiting allowed at all, but I'm off to visit dau.

You may be looking forward to it BYM- I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we all did your little run-in with EON. Bring back the starting handle, I say! Living at the top of a hill, it used to be really handy in the days when we could do a push start.

So sorry about your mum Lady A. All sorts of infections can cause confusion so hope it's nothing serious.

Just about all you can do thee days is kick the tyre and walk away. I prefer the self-starter Marigold. Starting handles can catch you quick a whack if you're not careful. I learnt to bump start cars rolling downhill when I was at unit - used to nick boyfriend's car to get to 8.30 lecture and the battery wasn't good in the morning!

So sorry to read this, hope your mum is ok. Let's hope it is something easily sorted
Thinking of you

This is very thought-provoking.

Very much so Marigold. It shows what a scientific approach, where people listen properly to what is said, can achieve. There have always been "notifiable diseases" and I can't understand why the same process for reporting and tracking hasn't been used before. For those of your that are puzzled by place names at the beginning, RCT is Rhondda Cynon Taf - the area many people think of as "the valleys" the coal mining valleys stretching north from Cardiff ad Newport It took me a couple of muttering of "RCT where the heck is RCT ..." before brain clicked in!

We wondered that, why they didn't just use the old system for reporting a disease as in the days of TB.
OH was reading this out and my mum said that's why I come from.
"Sorry"?
"My dad was from the Rhondda valley, that's where I was born Mark" :o :o
She is 86 years old and has never ever said this before. To be fair her dad was a nasty bit of work, bit too handy with his fists, after a drink, and when she came home with her first pay packet he took the lot, and she walked out the door, brave move then, and got to London somehow, got a job at Huntley and Palmers Biscuits and never looked back.
Thanks Margaid for that post, I have learnt something today, I did know she left home but assumed it was the London area. I must quiz her more
