Well, one one of them has. I think it's Izzie the Bluebell as she looks a lot more mature than the other two, having full comb and wattles. The eggs are a beautiful glossy pinky brown. I didn't notice for a while as she's laying on the floor instead of in the nest box of the Eglu. How can I get her to lay where she should? At least she's not laying away.

We had one that did that, once the others started laying in a nest box and getting very vocal over their amazing achievement, she soon started joining them in the laying boxes. Well done, it's such a great feeling
Another egg from Izzy! She is really treating us well. We had egg and chips last night, planning on scrambled egg on toast tonight now we have some bread. And possibly poached eggs tomorrow - we have some smoked haddock in the freezer!

Coincidence diane. I had hard boiled eggs and assorted bit of fish from my freezer in a potato bake last night. Mind you the Crunchy Nut Cornflakes for pudding was definitely down market.

Another egg today! I've been weighing them and they are all around 60 grammes.
That's quite a good weight for a young pullet. Thy often start at 40-50grams.
I was surprised that they felt so heavy when I picked them up so popped them on the scales. But they all look pretty identical in size and shape.
I gave the girls half a small tin of salt-free sweet corn the day before yesterday. They didn't seem much interested. When I gave them the second half of the tin they couldn't get it down fast enough.

Just like children, learning new tastes. I've found that different batches of hens like or refuse to eat different things. Previous batches have loved shredded white cabbage, this lot won't touch it.
A while back I gave them some salad leaves (delivered as a sub by Tesco). I hate them and so did the hens. I have an iceberg in the fridge so I'll try them with that.
Went to let the hens out this morning, still pretty dark here at 8.15, but they were already out! Asked OH if he'd done it, no, somehow they'd let themselves out. Has anyone heard of hens doing a Houdini out of an Eglu Classic?
Found two eggs this morning. One was on the floor where Izzie always lays hers but the other was in the nest box. They looked almost identical again similar colour, size and weight. Wondering if Morag has started laying but her eggs should be dark brown. Very confused.

Im getting 3 eggs a day now, which means Barbie and Sindy are taking it in turns, but wow what whoppers Sindy's eggs are. Ive had doubled yolked ones in the past. Just look at some of these Sindy has laid, against the normal one Barbie laid. One of them wouldn't fit in the egg box. DIane, do you give yours the dark "greens", the cheaper cabbage like leaves? That's what I feed mine daily, along with grass clippings, when possible.

Wow, those are huge! I haven't given them dark greens yet but I'll put some baby spinach on my Tesco order for tomorrow. We don't have a lot of choice here.
Four out of five today, what a lovely surprise. They've been battling on since November at one or two a day. Lily still laying those funny ones with a flat side and a thin spot, but today's didn't have a hole in it.
