We went to a friends sons wedding on Saturday. The bride looked stunning, the bridesmaids and page boy very sweet. Usually array of nice hats and underdressed teenagers.
All went well until the vicar came out with the "does anyone know of any just cause and impediment" part and two people stood up from the immigration department and arrested the Ghanaian bride who is here illegally, and has been deported once.
We did not see that coming. The grooms father insisted on going ahead with the reception having paid for it.
Most people have some sort of tale from a wedding, but even in my world that was a good one
Nearly as good as the one we went to in spring which was like a soap wedding.

The system here is a bit different so you only get permanent residency if you stay married, or have been here for 5 years. A French friend of ours married a Romanian woman and 5 years to the day she left him and went off on here own, having acquired the rights of residency and importantly healthcare. No healthcare for the first 5 years unless you are a dependent of someone who has the rights. As the S1 system finishes after Brexit, deal or no deal, for pensioners (already gone for everyone else) it's going to be extremely difficult to leave the UK and live here-you have to have the money for full healthcare insurance, which I guess based on our top-up premiums will be around €600 a month for a couple. To explain, the government only pays 70% and the insurers pay the rest. But that's only 70% of the standard rate and some doctors or specialists charge a lot more. Also if the government deems the treatment unnecessary (like dental posts and caps) you get nothing from anyone- very complicated indeed.

Not as much of a mug as someone I work with who married an African woman, after she gave birth she disappeared. He then married another African woman who left him after a few years and two children. Then he got a mail order Philippine bride who vanished last year along with £12,000. At which point do you learn, as he is now looking at Thai brides

Bigyetiman it seems some men will never learn because they think with what's between their legs ?. My ex husband, whom i left many ago, has since had relationships with many eastern European women. He even married one, despite her living in Russia. Oddly, they only saw each other once after the farce wedding with 2 witnesses and filed for divorce a month later.... might have been to do with our daughter making her sign a pre nuptial the day before ?..since then he's romancing the same mail order type.

We can all be mugs. I had a relationship of several years as a young man. I leant him some money. Subsequently he announced that he didn’t need to repay me because “I gave him money and he gave me sex”. I must have missed the bit where he said it was about prostitution.
