Wanted A gaggle of geese. Any breed preferred
I wish to start keeping Geese I have about one acre of paddock alongside a one acre lake. Looking for a gaggle of geese to join the family. We are located near Hereford so local sources would be good, however willing to travel for the right birds.
As I am starting out ideally I need a breed that will be easiest to keep for a beginner, and one that will be quite docile as the lake is open as a fishery also so members of the public will be wandering around.
Any advice or guidance welcome.

Hi Plod
welcome, and I hope you find what you are looking for. Sounds like they would have a lovely home. Have you considered rescue geese? I think rescue centres get them quite regularly, but they take some finding though s they don't often advertise them on their rehoming pages. I know our local rescue has some but I am in Dorset

I am offshore currently but will be home soon. Rescue geese would be acceptable, although if it is anything like rescue dogs we have had they all come with some baggage. Nothing that love and attention doesn't turn around but can be troublesome in the short term. Do geese do that too?
Where are these geese and how do I get in touch with the rescue centre. We have rescued dogs, rescued cats, and rescued chickens already, only the ducks were purchased new in fact.
Thanks

Hi Plod
like I said, they are quite far from you, but the link is:

Its worth asking the local rescues near you too, they don't always advertise ducks and geese.
Good luck!

Thanks. Jerry and Barbara look super.
I will certainly ask local rescues, but if we can help these two we will.
Cheers

Do let us know how you get on!
I fell in love with a couple of the dogs at the rescue, as well. Not sure how my Poppy would react to a newcomer, though.

Marigold, did you go to Margaret Green? I had a little bantam male duck from there a couple of months ago, he's gorgeous. Dougie.

No, I didn't visit, I just browsed the site from the link. What a beautiful photo! Dougie is a lucky boy.

Dougie is a sweetie! I wanted the two others as well, but they have such a nice life at the rescue I thought I would leave them!
