PogonaVitticeps,
Your snakes are beautiful, but how did you talk your wife into that? :D

I wouldn't have needed any encouragement to keep those beautiful snakes, and all the others - but for me the main problem would be trusting anyone else but me to look after them, it's bad enough with chickens and quails! . Can you ever go on holiday? Or do they all eat only every now and then?

Went to a chaps' house in Stoke to buy a telesight for my air rifle. In the middle of the lounge was a very large glass topped coffee table. On closer inspection it was actually a glass sided box and it contained a 3' Monitor lizard! He then introduced me to him, which basically involved me standing still while a long tongue was waved in the air in front of me. I really like reptiles, but will stick to just chickens.

I knew a man who had an enormous collection of reptiles, huge spiders etc, and who bred cockroaches etc as food for them. I remember him proudly showing me his tarantulas, very interesting, he said they were very tame but I didn't test it out for myself. His wife was phobic about ANY kind of animal, even cats and dogs, and he kept his collection in the guest bedroom (not many people came to stay.) She had to go in there to get to the airing cupboard and reported that 'the worst experience of my life' was the day when an escaped cockroach dropped from above and crawled down the inside of the front of her nightdress.....
He eventually had a stroke, and as soon as it was clear that he wasn't coming home, a specialist pet dealer came and removed all the livestock very rapidly - including the enormous tropical tortoise which was so big it took two strong men to lift it into a truck. This one went to live in a paddock and be company for a Shetland pony which was probably about the same size. The wife was especially glad to see this go, as it kept pushing down the barrier between the conservatory, where it lived, and her living room, and then doing ENORMOUS poos on the carpet. And it was very difficult to get it back where it belonged! I'm sure she loved him deeply, but there were some consolations when he died.

Had a bit of a giggle at that story Marigold. She sounds like a saint! I find myself wondering what enormous tortoise poo looks like?

I've got 3 dogs (Dalmatian, Springer Spaniel and Border Collie),5 horses, a newt and some fish (tropical and pond).

Used to have more animals but have a really bad few years and a fair few have passed away  2 horses, my lovely retriever x, Tortoise, 2 mud turtles and a newt.

hi , all mine are birds . got : pair of white cheeked turacos ( softbills ) , pair of lutino cockatiels , pair of cockatiels ( male grey hen lutino x pearl ) , 3 canaries ( red factor , crested irish fancy , yellow fife ) and not forgetting my broody bantam . :D

Sure I posted something like this last year, but anyways!-
8 horses, and currently riding and looking after a friends too
3 dogs, 2 weimaraners and a staffy
a guinea pig and 7 pet rats
7 chickens, 7 geese and 4 ducks!
for now!

Among birds, we (me and my wife) have even dogs. Roumanian breeds, Roumanian Raven Sheperds and Roumanian Bucovina Sheperd.
Big, beautiful and trusty dogs. Very good watchdogs!
They guard naturaly poultrys like their ancestors or working brothers, guard flocks of sheep.
If one Roumanian Raven Sheperd is beside poultrys, thieves, foxes or hawks, doesn't have a chance. ;)
