Brilliant new, upgraded Poultrykeeper site!

Post by Marigold »

A couple of weeks ago, Tim launched the new version of Poultry keeper, having been working hard on this for months. It's got lots of new articles, blogs and links, and is much more interactive than the old site, with new software and lots of pictures. I've been waiting for him to announce this on the Forum but I guess that, as ever, he's been really busy. So, as nobody seems to have noticed it, I thought I'd let you know about this amazing resource. See link at the bottom of the page, just above the banner advert.
Do have a good browse when you've got several hours to spare, and let us all know what you think. The latest post in the Blog section is by dorsetduckowner (Zoe Brodie-James) about the problems of domestic ducks abandoned in the wild.

I have noticed that other sites are pointing more and more people towards the articles in this one for information Marigold. Tim has done an incredible job building this.

Good call on the heads up Marigold :D I had no idea the website was so good. It looks really professional and is really informative. I feel I am reading things from direct experience not 'same old, same old'. Perhaps we should point some queries that crop up on the forum back to the website, there is a lot of relevant stuff on there. Great job :-)08

Hi, I am a new member and have been trying to post a welcome letter, but I am failing.
Can anyone advise please as I do not want to get deleted. I can't find my profile either.
I have just designed a new chicken house and bought two Blue Belles so will need advice.

Hi Lewis and welcome to the Forum.
Sorry about the problem with posting - now you've successfully managed one post, (to prove you are a real person and not a robot spammer) you won't be in danger of deletion, and in any case this only happens after up to a year after registering for people who never post and thus are cluttering up space in the server!
I wonder if you're clicking on the tempting red Post Reply box, instead of Submit just below your post? This can make it disappear beyond recovery. We've all done it, and the air has been pretty blue in this house at times. Post Reply is what to use when starting to reply to a previous post as it brings up a blank page, it also deletes anything you've written before ..... It brings up the full editing option, pictures, smileys etc, whereas if you just click on Quick Reply you just get a text box.
You can find your profile if you click on User Control Panel at the top of the page, just under the Board Index box.
Anyway, we will be looking forward to hearing more from you and your two lovely girls.

Yes, all the information is a really wonderful resource Tim. But its quite hidden away at the bottom of the page. Thanks for all you've done. It really is a fantastic forum and website.

Oops sorry I've only just seen this

Thank you all for the positive comments. They are appreciated :-)

It took 6 months to redesign the pk site, then another 3 to get all the bugs out...quite a few days of wondering whether I had bitten off more than I could chew. I'm very pleased with the result though, the site is quicker, better organised and I've updated many of the articles and added additional photos.

For anyone interested, the site is using Wordpress, and now runs on WPEngine's servers. It uses a content delivery network which serves the images and 'static' content from the nearest server to you in the World. It's also using secure encryption (https) now as well.

I spent quite a few weeks investigating and trying out forum software that could be incorporated into the main site - but in the end I couldn't find anything that was going to be able to import what we already have and improve on it.

Thank you everyone for your continued support, without people linking to the articles we produce from around the web, very few people would find them!

Tim
