New housemates!

Postby LadyA » Fri Nov 03, 2017 10:04 am

After the last of my the last of my three cats died about eighteen months ago, I was so heartbroken (although I realised even at the time that my devastation was out of proportion, and was more to do with the loss of my husband, who had died several months previously), I had sworn that I was getting no more pets. The cats were all old enough, one had lived to 21, one was 10 and one almost 11, but they each died a year apart. And actually, none of them just "died". I had to have all of them pts.

But recently, I started to feel that a living, breathing, presence in the house would be nice again. So I started looking at my vet's site, as they work with several rescues (including one in house), the local spca and the local Animal Welfare charity and always have cages full of cats/kittens looking for homes. Then a couple of weeks ago, I went in to talk to the receptionist about it, and see what they had available. Only going to look you understand! They had a lovely little silver tabby male. Very cute. So, I said I would take him. And as I was standing there, talking to the receptionist, this woman burst in with a box saying "This isn't mine! It just turned up in my mother's garden, but it's not ours! And I didn't know what to do, so someone said to bring it in here." She had a tiny tortie kitten in the box, who was in a bad way. About six weeks old, and one eye had ruptured! I looked at the little scrap, looked at the receptionist, and said "If she survives, I'll take her too!" :-)07 So, they spent a week building her up with antibiotics and food to get her to a weight where they could give her anaesthetic, removed her eye, and gave her another few days on recuperation, putting the little tabby in the cage with her for company. And I took them both home last Saturday, where they are romping around like nutcases, as only kittens can! She gets her stitches out middle of next week. The tabby is twice her size, but far more timid. She knows neither fear nor boundaries! :D I called them Atticus (usually call him Atticus Catticus) and Toria. I'm afraid I don't know how to post pics anymore, since photobucket did the dirty! So I can't show you. You'll have to take my word for how cute they are! :D

Glad they're settling in LadyA. Nothing like a purry furry to cheer up the long dark evenings.
