Re: Scraps or no scraps, which is best?

Sorry to put a damper on things, but please note that it is against Defra Rules to feed any sort of scraps from your kitchen to your birds. Some folk do, but it is against the law. Please bear this in mind :)

Re: Hens stopped laying, is this due to move?

Well there's happy and too fat Philcott. Sounds like they are the latter as well as the former. Lewis Wright goes on about fat chickens and how useless they are at great length. Appears that the fat builds up around the ovaduct leaving no room for the eggs to get through. :D You're right there is a...

Re: Sick Chick

Wrigley some chicks just don't thrive and it could be that this is one of them. Feeding them medicated crumb doesn't mean they won't get Cocci, just that is less likely they will get it. My first thoughts when you posted were cocci. By the sounds of things her system is not functioning well, so perh...

Please tell that to my very large, greedy and non-laying Barnebars! They're well happy and not an egg in sight bar one or two from three of them per week!

Re: Hens stopped laying, is this due to move?

Hi Pam - I would say it was definitely the uproar in the flock that is causing them not to lay. I've found in the past, that it takes about 10 days to 2 weeks for it to settle down and for the birds to come back into lay.

Good luck with your 'new' flock! :)

Re: removing all red mite traces

Karminski - whatever it is you are using to kill off your red mite, obviously has no residual action - either that or you are washing it off. There are stronger chemicals that you can use to spray your coops, which dry during the day and then the birds can be put back into them. It has a residual ac...

Re: Leaving forum

I would just like to say - don't forget that if you don't know someone, it is very difficult to work out if they are being rude, curt, friendly or downright sarcastic - you can't see body language, hear their voice or see the twinkle (or not) in the eye. That is why we have emoticons, but not everyo...

Re: our heart rules head chicks and the Hy-line girls

Mummy hen looks to have a crest - could be part aracauna (sp?) or cream legbar. I'm hopeless at guessing breeds, so will leave it to those who can! :D
