Re: Red bits in chick poo

Chicks are still fine and no more signs of red. They are 3 weeks old on Tuesday and have been out on grass since day 2. Not had probiotic or cider vinegar. Think I got 3 Roos and one girl and this might be a cause of worry too as the little 'girl' not as active as the other three and this started me...

Red bits in chick poo

Small issue this morning. A couple of the poos laid by the chick/s first thing this morning have red bits in. Looks a bit like the poo adults lay when they are shedding their linings. The chicks are all active and don't look sick, but can someone confirm if chicks (possibly roo's) shed linings, or m...

Re: Broody questions

Phew, all the chicks seem happy at the mo, so just still be warm enough for them. Grown massively over last two weeks, amazing to watch

Re: Broody questions

Got another question if anyone can help? All seems to be going well, chicks now 2 weeks old. Mum now seems to be dropping feathers quicker than a burst pillow and a bit worried she's moulting at just the wrong point. I know she's moulting and not feather pecking as a major flight feather dropped tod...

Re: new chicks - story so far and questions

Thank you for responses :) She seems fine on chick crumb and eating it, so will leave her be and not try to add anything else into her diet. Funnily enough, she seems to set up camp for the night half on the dish of food in the house and eats her fill then, rather than during the day from what I've ...

new chicks - story so far and questions

My broody successfully hatched 4 eggs, so YEAH! They where born on Tue / Wed (day 21/22) and spent Wed locked in the house with the first chicks venturing out of the nest into the house to find dish of food & water I put in for them. On Thursday (day 23), mum got off the nest leaving four unhatched ...

Re: when do i stop moving broody off eggs

Day 19. She went back on the nest after 10 mins today with damp feet but amazing how dry she stayed. Hope she knows what she's doing as I'm terrified :D

Re: when do i stop moving broody off eggs

Hi Chris :) shes sitting on hemp sawdust type, in terracotta pot which I will remove once chicks born and any unhatched eggs dealt with. She wont get off the nest without my help (every time shes gone broody over last couple of years shes refused to budge, so history of sitting tight). When she gets...

when do i stop moving broody off eggs

I have a pekin sitting on eggs - day 21/Hatch date is 30th Jun :)
I am taking her off the nest daily to eat and drink - what day do i stop doing this (as i think it causes issues with egg humidity in last days)?
Cheers.
