Re: Coronavirus

And for today’s cockup; https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-54561788 At least it was her own swab.... OH has been suffering from some kind of post-viral (not covid) problem ever since last October when he caught it at a flu clinic before these were conducted the way they are now. He...

Re: Eggs

Hi fbo, all normal. Yes they quite often like to settle down where it’s cosy and private, it’s about the only time they get to themselves really! And when just starting to lay, they’re not used to what’s going on, it’s like puberty for them, isn’t it? First eggs will be very small, around 40 grams m...

Re: Buying new hens advice

Here we are then. http://www.fallowspoultry.co.uk/Chickens/ Sensible advice for new keepers on the website. It’s normal to show stock photos of adult birds on that sort of site. The supplier will have bought them in from a bigger commercial breeder of hybrids and will be offering them from sale from...

Re: Lump (infected?) Near breast bone

No, Vermex is sold as a digestive tonic which MAY help the chickens’ gut to resist worm infestation. It is not proven to be effective as a wormer and cannot claim to be. It may help improve the condition of a poorly bird but basically healthy birds don't need it. However, if it makes the owner feel ...

Re: Lump (infected?) Near breast bone

Well done for getting all that sorted out, I’m glad it’s paying off in terms of the chickens health and comfort. If the injuries are healing now, that would seem to confirm the diagnosis of unsuitable perches. They will thank you for improving these! As you say, probably no need for a vet visit, if ...

Re: Dodgy drinkers; supplier won't replace them

I would advise contacting Trading Standards about your issue, Icemaiden. I used to have the sort of plastic drinkers you have to fill and invert, but got fed up with getting wet feet, arms and legs when they fell apart when inverted, especially in winter. So now I use galvanised ones with a central ...
