Bedding query

I have collected my 6 girls today (first ones ever!) and had purchased a bale of Aubiose to use in the house and nest boxes, but was told by the person I purchased the hens from that this is not good to use as the hens will eat it and it gets stuck in their crops and that I should use wood shavings ...

Re: Poultry Shield

What's Diatom paste? I've got the powder, but haven't heard of the paste or do you make it yourself? Time for stupid questions again! How do I know when the hens are going to want access to their nestboxes to lay? If I'm in there cleaning the house out and shut them out until it's dry, what will the...

Poultry Shield

Can anyone tell me how often I should thoroughly clean out my hen house (when I get it!)? I intend using Poultry Shield, but am not sure whether I should do a thorough clean out every week, or whether a general clean up and change of bedding should be done on a weekly basis and a thorough clean out ...

Re: FLIPPIN RATS

I've spoken to someone today who uses Eradibait and they say since they started using it they haven't seen any signs of rats! All the bait was cleared very quickly. The council use poison, so whether you put it down or them, it is still poison and dangerous to your pets.

Re: Apple cider vinegar

You can buy it online or from anywhere that stocks horse or farming supplies, Mole Valley Farmers etc. It's all the same stuff, just marketed for different animals or humans.

Re: FLIPPIN RATS

There is a product called Eradibait which says it kills the rats in a more humane way than poison. Apparently they fall into a coma in their burrows and die. Much better than causing such a painful death with the poison! I haven't used it yet as I don't have a rat problem at the moment, but will try...

Re: Which products?

Thanks Tim. The trouble with having to get things from the vet is that they charge much higher prices than getting it elsewhere. Not sure why they're allowed to get away with this, but they are. Sorry if there are any vets reading this, but it's a fact, anyone with animals will agree!

Re: Which products?

Than you for your replies. Regarding the Ivermectin, you say it is only available on prescription from the vet, but it seems to be available on several poultry supply website, including Wells. Is this the same stuff or is this something to be avoided? Would the Respite or Poultry Spice be better to ...

Please can you experienced forum members out there humour me and tell me whether I'm overdoing things! I've got on my shopping list Poultry Spi...

Food and Water

Is it ok to leave food and water down overnight in an enclosed secure run? I will be having an automatic pop hole in my new hen house/run and wondered whether it would be ok to leave the food and water out overnight so that it is there for them when they come out in the morning. They will obviously ...
