Re: Ivermectin/Harkomectin
Sorry for the delay in replying - it's Foxy you need to ask this question of, as I don't use DE/washing up liquid. I've tried DE but didn't find it of much use sadly - probably operator error!

Re: Ivermectin/Harkomectin
I think the answer depends on exactly what/which brand of Ivermectin you are using. If it's the pigeon one, I have always dosed three drops for bantams, five drops for LF and done it once (withdrawal of eggs for 10 days) and then re-dosed them four or so months later. The use of Ivermectin shouldn't...

Re: Exporting Chickens
So pleased that the trip went without too much of a hassle for you. Yikes - your fuel consumption! Sounds like it was a real adventure - and one which I am sure you are glad is over! Take care, travel safe and look forward to your photos when you find time. Your brown leghorn babies are all grown up...

Re: Catching Chooks.
Even easier is to wait until dusk and they have gone too roost. Then just quietly pick them up and do what you have to do! No stress, no fuss. The worst thing you can do to a chicken is try and catch it when they don't want to be caught. And stress causes a depressed immune system, which in turn mea...

Good luck Chris - travel safe and look forward to hearing all about it when you get back! (Yes I know you won't read this before you get back - but it's the thought that counts!

Re: Health precautions
I would suspect that they have been vaccinated already in that case. I would advise against mixing any unvaccinated stock should you decide to get any more chickens. Your birds will excrete various viruses for most of their lives, consequently infecting any new stock. It's nothing to worry about and...

Re: blood on Elsie's crop.
I would use the good old 'purple spray' on her cut. It disguises the red so that the other hens don't take an interest. I'm not sure of the correct name, but it is the one you buy in the horsey shops for use on horses!

Re: Health precautions
Congrats on your new hens! It's going to be fun for you as well as a sharp learning curve! :) While Verm-x is a good tonic/preventative for birds, sadly it does not kill worms, so you will somewhere along the line need to get hold of either Flubenvet and mix it with your feed, or get the pellets tha...

Re: silly question
Stalosan is used by the horsey folk, so any Country Store type equine shop should have it. Better to buy it in person, it's heavy stuff and your delivery costs could be high.
