Re: Advice needed re my Ancona cockerel

Thank you very much everyone! I reallyvdo appreciate your good advice, especially as it helps me think about it from a different angle. To be fair I think the girls will be happier too because he is quite demanding on them already (probably because he is still young?) And not sure they particularly ...

Re: Advice needed re my Ancona cockerel

Thank you Rick for that, it's definitely making me feel a tiny little bit better wuth the decision I may need to take. My husband is better in that way, and will not feel quite as guilty as I will... We have actually been stern with him from the beginning, and the same with Peckford, our new Hampshi...

Advice needed re my Ancona cockerel

Hi all, I absolutely love Tom my ancona cockerel to bits but at nearly 7 months old now he is becoming a bit of a nuisance in more than one way... Can fly too high (so even 6 feet fences wouldn't keep him in), far too noisy (very much likes the sound if his voice at any time if the day and night and...

Re: Broody Chinese Painted Quail

Oh I see! Very interesting :-) I will definitely make the swap over if she decides to carry on sitting,... I think I may have gotten excited a little prematurely because she has been out of the hut more often today... Either Charley's courting call was too strong for her to resist (she's not exactly...

Re: Broody Chinese Painted Quail

Thank you Marigold for the great advice! She came out a little this morning and did a little dance, a stretch, and a quick feed and back to the nest she went! So this day 4 at the moment. The cage is indoors yes, so temperatures are ok - outside it goes to freezing or below freezing at night. At the...

For Sale - Nottingham - Young Ancona Cockerel

Hi All, I was hoping to be able to keep him, but unfortunately, it's getting more and more difficult. Tom the Ancona Cockerel, is full of character and is definitely the dominant one in the coop. We have another cockerel, must more gentle and quieter and we are keeping this one. Tom is far too noisy...

Broody Chinese Painted Quail

Hi all! Both Charley and Martha are doing very well now that they are getting the correct nutrition... Martha has been laying pretty much everyday as well. They're very in love ;) Every evening they like merge into one big quail with two heads. It's adorable to see. They use the sand bath together.....

Re: Help working out breed please?

@tweetypie As far as I can work out New Hampshire Red. Very shiny coat! Absolutely love his colours. To say that we had to rescue him from one particularly aggressive hen the day he hatched. I fed him with a pipette, and was really not sure that he was going to make the night... He's come a long way...
