Re: Lulu the Terrible

Oh wow! I had no idea they could/ would catch mice!
One of mine had caught a frog and was having a great time with it... It was too gross by the time I discovered it for me to feel able to do something about it... But mice, wow!

Re: Thoughts on dogs and chickens

Oh wow thank you all for your responses! So training and supervision required... Which is about what I expected. The rescue rough collie I was looking at is 3 years old. I will definitely read up on training him. I would definitely not leave the dog and hens loose in the garden if I wasn't in the ga...

Thoughts on dogs and chickens

Can I have your thoughts on dogs and chickens / bantams please? Do you have both and which breeds?
Which breed seems to be ok generally with poultry? I am hoping to get a rough collie. Anyone on here who's had experience of this breed or other types of collies with their poultry?
Thanks

Re: Bantam cockrel

Hi Cathy I know Cheshire isn't exactly Burton on Trent but I have found a rescue place there who tend to accept all. I took two of my CPQ males there and they did say that if the young chicks I had (now adults lol) turned out to be male, or any other birds I couldn't keep they would take without any...

Re: Martha's done it again!

@tweetypie the yellow bird is a fife canary, we have named Olive. I got him / her recently to give Bernard, my other canary some company at the top of the cage... However Olive seems more interested in what's happening at the bottom, especially when a new bowl of mealworms appears... ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ The quails a...

Re: Bald belly advice

I'm no expert so all I can offer is a tale of my own experience... Some of my girl have been known to get bald bellies after a period of broodiness - whether it was a long 3 to 4 weeks plus period or a short period. But they have grown back eventually once normal duties, normal eating had resumed as...

Re: Martha's done it again!

Hi everyone. We've just come back from 2 weeks away.... And I would love to know what's happened to our baby quails ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Here is a video update and it took me a good hour or so to differentiate the four young ones from the parents and the four young ones from each other.!! Altogether they really are ...

Re: treating fox bites

Just came across this thread... Glad Toffee is ok. Definitely very lucky, but I have to admit that I am amazed at how resilient these tough little cookies can be!

Re: Martha's done it again!

It just amazes me how fast they are growing up! Like you said Marigold they look older than 12 days (well 16 days now) and yet they are still babies! And you realise that when you find them still trying to fit under Martha's wings at nap time ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ still too young to go in a separate enclosure, but rap...

Re: Martha's done it again!

Just a quick update on the chicks... Well they already don't look like chicks but sure behave like chicks still, constantly in their mother's wings lol. https://youtu.be/8zobeeKn1os Penny has been sat on eggs too for a couple days - well Martha and the muffins were in the nest this evening actually ...
