Re: Holiday flock visits

Hi I contacted a dog walking cat sitting lady, as i have cats anyway and asked if she was happy to check on my hens also, and she was. I just explained what they needed and i let her keep any eggs that are laid while i am away. She just charges me a few extra pounds on top of what i pay for the cats...

Re: Forum update

I am loving this new look to the forum. Its so much easier to read, also having the addition of the red headings really helps it.
Great work to the designer.
Thank you

Re: Posted Eggs

I have mostly always had posted eggs, and usually get a good hatch from them.
I usually get 4 out of 6 to hatch but for me that is fine.
And using both broody and incubated methids to hatch.
I am hoping to receive two lots of eggs next week, just waiting for proven fertility.

Re: Where is everybody?

Hi everyone
I am still around, just not posted much.
Certainly not had many eggs, even though i had young girls who chose not to lay over the winter.
Just waiting now to buy in some new hatching eggs, once they prove fertile.

Re: Feather fest

Aha i see.
My reason was in the evening there were no feathers anywhere.
In the morning it looked like a pillow fight had gone on , feathers everywhere.
I just wondered how it happened.
Would love to,see a yountube film of them being rejected.

Feather fest

Just a daft question, do hens moult, one feather at a time do they pluck them out, or fire each one out or just go, BAM and shoot all uneanted feathers out in one go.
Has anyone filmed a hen moulting ?
Just wondered.

Re: Bed Time

Mine all go to bed at about 19.30
Always have, even the younger ones go up at the same time as the older girls.
And the 6 week old chicks go at 8pm.

Re: Crowing boys

The noisy boy has now been kept locked up until 8am every day and is a lot quieter i have been told.
So he is hoping its enough to keep the neighbour and council happy.
I dont know at what time he locks him up.
But i hope its a happy outcome.
