Re: Fat balls

It's the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett. Comic fantasy, inspired by the absurdities of real life. I commend them to you! Start with "The colour of magic"...

Re: Fat balls

We have rooks in our garden & a rookery in the tall trees just behind us. Before I got the girls, I used to feed the wild birds. The rooks would devour a fatball in minutes, so I got a 2litre fat block with seeds in it & left it on the lawn. Blow me if they didn't manage to carry the whole thing awa...

My garage is going to be full of chicken feed and supplements soon ]
Just make sure that the feed is all in rodent proof containers e.g. meatloaf dustbins with metal lids, otherwise your garage will be full of rats & nice too

NB Googled it. It's only lived here since 2001 which is why I'd never heard of it. Maybe once Brexit happens it will migrate back to Europe." Hopefully come Brexit, the oak processionary moth caterpillars will migrate back with the tree bees. Hard working tax paying Eastern European migrants I don'...

Re: Integrating new pullets

I always do what Marigold's done this time. I divide the run in half with wire mesh & give the new girls the half with the coop in it, to put the established hens on the back foot. The "old" girls have to sleep in the greenhouse for 2 - 3 weeks, but they're always happy enough up on the shelf in a l...
