Re: Oh rats!

Just for info, I have had a professional pest control guy out who has put bait etc down & we'll take it from there. He did say out in the country we'll never eradicate the possibility & rats can dig 1 mtr down then along & up again to get to a source of food  They can also travel up to 1kilome...

Oh rats!

Oh dear, looks like we have the problem of rats again. We had this last year, or suspected anyway, did what we could to get rid of them which we thought had worked. Obviously not, as they're back. This time I think we will get in a pest control person as its not cured the problem obviously. But once...

Been given old coop- cleaning advice pls

This is similar question to another post but I'm not sure how much of the same info applies. I have been given a Forsham Ark chicken coop, still in excellent condition after about 8 years use but it has been unused (no chooks) for a year. It was just left exactly as it was when the last chook vacate...

Update on broody old chook

Success! Thank you Marigold for your advice, after a week in the 'sin bin' she's forgotten all about having chicks! As I was away a week I thought it better to leave her there as it would have been difficult to re-introduce her when I wasn't there. She doesn't seem any the worse for her confinement ...

Re: Old chook won't leave nest box.

Thank you for that useful info Marigold, I now know what to do. I have already turfed her out, she was grumpy but not too bad surprisingly. She is now on the outside of the run with the others inside, best solution at the moment, its a fenced off area so she still has probably too much freedom for t...

Re: Old chook won't leave nest box.

Thank you Marigold. I will have a look at what I've got & see what I can rig up. I do have a spare coop which is my isolation ward (she was in it when I first got her) but it doesn't have a run attached, previously I've been able to rig up a netting enclosure within the main run as it was much large...

Re: Old chook won't leave nest box.

Today its been raining hard all day, my broody hasn't left the nestbox at all since yesterday as far as I can tell. I've no experience of this so need advice please. I put an egg (which I'd marked) beside her yesterday as Chris suggested & sure enough when I went out a few hours later she had taken ...

Re: Old chook won't leave nest box.

Thank you everyone. I've been thinking she could have gone broody but as I've never experienced a broody chook I wasn't sure how to recognise the symptoms except the obvious of sitting on eggs! I was surprised to see her out with the others first thing this morning on the perch, but couldn't lock he...
