Re: Wet droppings (grey green)

The penny dropped (le centime est tombé) with green poos when Chester attacked Jean-Claude and beat himself up on the run wire. His poos went bright green immediately, so obviously not an infection but a stress reaction to his chest injuries. Since then we've only put green poos down to internal inf...

Re: Wet droppings (grey green)

Wet grey/ green droppings are normal for a moulting hen Rick. They eat their feather sheaths which fills their crop with effectively nothing they can digest- some also eat moulted feathers which can impact the crop. The result from the stress of the moult is a green tinge to the poo and as most of t...

Re: Hope you are all ok?!

We had some rain which has washed in the fertiliser. If anyone has heard the news about the disastrous flooding in Aude, fortunately it's away East from us. At least 6 drowned overnight when their cars were washed off the roads in the worst flooding since 1891. Fire brigade can't cope with all the c...

Re: Hope you are all ok?!

Just got our Mac back from repair- needed an upgrade and a new battery. Have had just 30mm of rain here in 4 months and are waiting for the storms and heavy rain this afternoon or evening. Fertiliser put down all over the place waiting to get washed in, particularly on the now brown new grass which ...

Re: What if English were phonetically consistent?

I suppose that's how my French sounds to a French person- no wonder I get some puzzled looks!

Re: Florence and the snake

Law here now is that all dogs must be microchipped. So we've been told the usual excuse if someones dog escapes and causes damage is that they sold it prior to the event but haven't got the new owners details. Our house insurance covers damage by our dog fortunately, although she is calming down now...

Re: "Google ad. experiment."

£10 here buys you 8 litres of wine, which entertains me for days! I did see an ad for mail order oil seals. Turns out to be a pretty useful site as they may stock something suitable for our old rotorvator. The usual solution to worn axle seals is to fill the gearbox with grease but that causes a lot...

Re: Florence and the snake

I didn't phrase that too well Icemaiden and was , of course, referring to the snake. We have apples falling into the bantams enclosure and have had some near misses Rick. I suppose we should have put a net over it. Stray dogs are a major problem in France and also hunting dogs, although hunting is g...

Re: Florence and the snake

We moved the little snake to an area where the TNN's don't roam Mrs Biscuit- nasty little thing. We managed to get a plastic container over it and slide a piece of card underneath. We've already had one TNN die after eating a whole lizard -she recovered from a very upset stomach and partial paralysi...

Re: Florence and the snake

I remember one of our chickens getting drunk on fallen pears Rick. Apparently there is natural yeast on the skin which ferments with the sugars in the fruit and the tiny amount of alcohol is enough. She was standing motionless in the garden just staring at nothing and then staggered a lot when she t...
